As I said earlier, business should focus on more conversations instead of focusing on sales on their social media accounts.

People are on social media because they have something to tell, something they think is valuable! So why are business only focussing on sharing their products and services?

Focus your social media on conversations!

Well, that is simple! The people are blind for advertisement. So advertisement would be stupid to post if you ask me.

So NO advertisement on your social media accounts if I would suggest! But what then?

You may think, conversations you said? How am I gonna do that? Well, think of this. Your social media is perfect to get to know your audience.

You can ask them questions, ask for feedback or you can deliver them inspiration from your perspective. You can ask them what they like or don’t like. Or what problems they have on a specific topic. These questions are essential to make your business more focused on your audience.

I won’t recommend posting every post with a question, but posting it regularly is a perfect idea!

By asking questions you will find answers to questions.

Questions like:

  • is your product what users want?
  • is your service delivering value to the customer?

You will discover a lot of insights into when you interact with your audience!

To be honest, I love it when people responding on Instagram with a like, but I love the reactions the most. Because that is the time I get to know my audience.

Why not focusing on sales?

Why should you not focus on sales? Well as I said earlier, people are blind for advertisement!

For example, you are owning a brand the makes special shoes. Every day you post pictures of your beautiful shoes with the price on it. Off course, people will start to like them when you have some followers. But nobody that is liking the pictures of your advertisement, is going to your web shop and buy your shoes.

Well, you start to ask your self the questions, why are the not buy my shoes in my web shop? Even though they liked the photo of the advertisement of that cool sneaker. Well, that is hard to guess right?

In this example, I wanted to show what would happen, if your posts are only focussing on sales. I’m not telling you that you should never post a special offer to your audience. Don’t overload them with it on your social media channels!

Next time you’re gonna do better

Earlier I’ve written a few examples for barbershops, hairstylists, make-up artist, financial professional or travel agency.

Check it out!

Before you post next time think about “Is this gonna bring some free value for my audience?” because that is gonna be the most important, right?

Sometimes you need to change the way you create and post content, so be creative and smart! Keep it close to yourself. It is good to step out the comfort zone and try new ways.

I hope, this is gonna help you create better content for yourself, your business or for someone else!

Please let me know if you agree or disagree with me about this topic! And share with me if you need help.
